What is the Gangnam Style AI trend?

The Gangnam Style AI trend copies a TikTok clip from October 2026: three friends in one wide-angle selfie on a night street in Gangnam, Seoul, mouthing PSY's "Gangnam Style" while the camera swings to each of them. Here is where it came from and how to make yours from photos.

The song

"Gangnam Style" is PSY's 2012 K-pop hit about the lifestyle of Seoul's Gangnam district. Its video was the first on YouTube to pass a billion views, and its horse dance went around the world. TikTok has revived it several times since, including a vertical trio dance that went viral in January 2025.

The clip: a trio selfie in Gangnam

On October 5, 2026 @emiliyyam posted "gangnam style in gangnam": three friends on a lit-up street in Gangnam at night, a Korean flag and a blue street sign behind them, filmed with one wide-angle front camera held at arm's length. It passed 18 million views.

The shot is a single take with no cuts, and the timing is what people copy:

  • 0–2 s: all three squeeze into the frame, laughing and mouthing the song.
  • 2–5 s: the camera moves in on the friend in the middle.
  • 5–8 s: it swings to the friend on the right, who flips her hair and gestures.
  • About 8 s: a fast whip pan.
  • 9–12 s: the friend on the left, hands on her head, a finger heart.
  • 12–15 s: back to the middle, waving at the lens.

Four days later @annestakim copied it in Almaty step for step, and @emiliyyam filmed it again in Itaewon.

The AI wave

From October 19, 2026 the most-viewed versions swap three new people into the same clip: movie wizards, superheroes, celebrities, politicians. Nearly all of them are made with AI from photos, and CapCut tutorials for a one-photo template spread in English, Russian, Arabic and Korean.

Our Gangnam Style trio follows the original move for move with your own photos: you in the middle, up to two friends on the sides, and our dancers in any empty spot. Every face and outfit stays yours. We don't use the original creators' faces, and we don't allow photos of celebrities.

How to make yours

  1. Open the generator and add your photo for the middle spot.
  2. Add a friend for the left and the right, or leave them for our dancers.
  3. Watch the free 4-second preview: the three of you together, then your close-up.
  4. Unlock the full 15-second video, download it with the sound, and post. The sound guide covers TikTok's own sound.

Gangnam Style trend: questions

Who started the Gangnam Style trio trend?

The current wave comes from @emiliyyam's "gangnam style in gangnam", posted on October 5, 2026 and viewed over 18 million times. Trios had danced to the song on TikTok before, but this night-street selfie is the shot the AI versions copy.

Is there a Gangnam Style CapCut template?

The CapCut templates going around take a single photo. Our generator takes one to three photos, keeps each person's face in their close-up, and needs no app.

Why is the video landscape?

The original was filmed in 16:9 with a wide-angle front camera, and the AI versions keep that frame. TikTok shows landscape videos with bars above and below, or full screen when the phone is turned.

How are people making the AI versions?

They put photos into an AI video generator that copies the clip's camera moves. Ours does it from one to three photos with a free preview first.

Your photos in, your own Gangnam Style trio out, with a free preview first.
